POWERBALL is played in 29 States, Washington, D.C. and the US Virgin Islands. The States are: Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Indianna, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Pick up a ticket at any lottery retailer in the above States and select FIVE white numbers from 1 to 55 and ONE red Powerball number from 1 to 42.
If you don't want to pick your own numbers, you can have the terminal computer (Quick Pick) choose your numbers.
You can also buy tickets in advance -- up to 10 consecutive draws.
Tickets cost $1 for each 6 number combination
You can multiply your winnings for an EXTRA $1 PER GAME by Playing the Power Play, which increases winnings by up to 5x. The Power Play does not apply to the Jackpot.
The Draw
Every Wednesday and Saturday evening around 11:00 pm Eastern Time, FIVE white numbers plus ONE POWERBALL number are drawn.
Prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw.
Jackpots
Jackpots start at $15 Million and are carried over if there are no winners.
If there is more than ONE winner, then the Jackpot is shared among all winners.
You have the option of taking the Jackpot in a lump-sum or by a 30 year annuity; however, you must make your decision within 60 days.
The chances of winning the Jackpot are 1:146,107,962.
